| SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION |
Students in 8th grade prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation, which is conferred
in the fall of their 9th grade year. In addition to classroom attendance and proficient
mastery of material, preparation for the Sacrament includes 20 hours of Christian Service,
selecting and researching a saint, writing a letter to the Bishop, attending a Confirmation
retreat, and meeting with their sponsor.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CONFIRMATION 2012 1. All students preparing for Confirmation must participate in one of the following confirmation preparation programs:
2. Confirmation Information Sheet & Baptismal Information – The form must be completed and return to Mrs. Hanley’s office immediately. If the student has been baptized in a parish other than Sts. John & Bernard and St. Joseph, a photocopy of the baptismal certificate is required. 3. Sponsorship Form – This form is to be completed and return to Mrs. Hanley’s office (not at CCD or LMC). Please remember that those sponsors from outside of either St. Joseph or Sts. John & Bernard Parishes need to have their form signed and sealed by the pastor of their parish. Local parishioners who are going to be sponsors do not need to have their forms signed by our pastors. 4. Christian Service Hours Form – Christian Service Hours are tasks performed without pay for the benefit of those you are serving. All students are required to perform 20 hours of service during the course of their Confirmation preparation. 5. Letter to Bishop Paul J. Bradley – This letter is to be handwritten by the student and given to their teacher (not sent directly to the Bishop). Instructions as to the contents of this letter are attached. 6. Confirmation Name and Brief Saint Report – Each student must choose a saint name to be their Confirmation Name. A brief report about the chosen saint is required and will be done in class. Research may be done on-line at www.Catholic.org/saints. 7. Meeting with your Sponsor. Each student is required to meet with or phone their sponsor three (3) times during their preparation for the Sacrament. A sponsor meeting guide will be provided. Each student must complete a Verification Form listing the three dates that they met or talked with their sponsor 8. Confirmation Retreat - Each student is required to attend a Confirmation Retreat. Details will be provided at a later date. 9. Interview with the Pastor - Each student is required to be interviewed by his/her Pastor prior to Confirmation. The dates of these interviews will be determined by the date of Confirmation. They usually take place a few weeks before Confirmation. The date of Confirmation is determined by the Bishop. You will be informed of these dates upon our notification by the Bishop. Our dates will most likely be the first 2-3 weeks of October, 2012. 10. Confirmation Reviews (Quizzes) – All students to be confirmed will be quizzed on the basic teachings of the Catholic Faith before Confirmation. These teachings are a cumulative review of what they should have learned over the years. We will have the students demonstrate their understanding of the teachings throughout the preparation process in the form of short quizzes. A list of Confirmation Review Questions is attached. |
