|
Monday in Costa Rica we
visited the home of Daniel,
age 16, and his grandmother,
Maria Cecilia, age 63, both
sponsored, who live in the city
of Cartago. Maria Cecilia is
raising several grandchildren.
Maria suffered a stroke last
year but appears to be doing
well.

We traveled to Costa Rica and El
Salvador from Jan 28th to Feb 4th to
visit the children and aging we sponsor
through the Christian Foundation for
Children and Aging (CFCA). The
foundation provided us with
transportation and interpreters during
our visits.
Maria Cecilia's Family
Tuesday in Costa Rica we
visited the homes of
sponsored children Hansel
12, Abigail 13, and Keylin
15, who live near each
other in the city of
Desamparados. Hansel
and Kelylin both live in
single parent homes in a
high crime area. Abigail is
fortunate to live in a stable
two-parent home.
Wednesday we traveled to El Salvador and
visited the CFCA office in Santa Ana. The staff
showed us the many functions done there and
let us see how letters to and from sponsors are
translated and processed. They process over
90,000 letters a year. Some of the sponsored
scholars help with the letters.
Thursday morning we visited the home of
Herminia 71, a sponsored aging in Santa Ana who
lives with her daughter. She has a broken shoulder
that happened during a recent fall. Later that day
we traveled to Ataco to visit the grave site of
Socorro, one of our sponsored aging who passed
away January 9th at the age of 87. The CFCA staff
in Ataco arrange flowers for us to take.
Friday morning we visited the home of
Juana 74, a sponsored aging living near
Santa Ana. She is a member of the
Legion of Mary at her church. In the
afternoon we traveled to San Salvador
and saw the Chapel where Bishop Oscar
Romero was assassinated in 1980.
