Saint Joseph Catholic Church
Saint Joseph, Michigan
There are a variety of ways in which you can help out your parish. If you are
able, please dedicate some of your time and talent in assisting in one of the
following ways.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion
Lector
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion assist the priest in
distributing the Body and Blood of
Christ to the faithful at Mass. One
should be a confirmed Catholic with a
firm grasp of the real presence of
Christ in the Eucharist in order to
serve as a Extraordinary Minister of
Holy Communion.
As a reader, a person assists at
Mass by proclaiming the first and
second readings. One should be a
confirmed Catholic in order to help
out in this fashion.
Altar Servers
Cantors, Choirs, and Musicians
Altar serving is a great opportunity
for boys and girls in the 5th grade
and above to help out at Mass.
Check the calendar or church bulletin
for training sessions.

Give of your time and talent in one of
our musical groups which help our
parish celebrate Mass. Or, one can
assist as a Cantor or musician.

Ushers
Ushers provide the parish with many
invaluable services. Ushers arrive 20
minutes before Mass, unlock all of
the doors, assist in seating, take up
the collection, assist parishioners
with emergencies and illness and
clean up clutter after the conclusion
of the Mass.

Greeters
Funeral Luncheon Apostolate
Greeters are the welcoming
committee for the weekend Masses.
Greeters warmly welcome people as
they arrive at Church and distribute
bulletins or worship materials.
Help those who are grieving over the
loss of a loved one by assisting with
a funeral luncheon. You can help by
preparing a dish, serving the food or
helping to clean up.
Soup Kitchen Volunteers
Jail Apostolate
Soup Kitchen Volunteers help out at
the soup kitchen in Benton Harbor
twelve times a year. Volunteers help
prepare and distribute food as well
as clean up afterward. Help out in
this highly rewarding Apostolate.
Jail Apostolate volunteers spend one
hour each Monday (on a rotating
schedule), discussing the scriptures
and prayer with those who are
incarcerated. This apostolate also
includes bringing the Holy Eucharist
to Catholic inmates once a month.
